The Kehillah School Tutoring

Kehillah replaced its AP classes with its own college-level courses, called Kehillah Advanced Topics (KAT), built to put depth ahead of test preparation. Our tutors are current and former Stanford students who enjoy going deep into a subject and know how to explain it clearly.

We tutor Kehillah students in everything from Geometry and Biology to KAT Calculus BC and KAT Chemistry, and help with essays and research projects. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home or online.

Math by level, not by grade

At Kehillah, students take the math course that matches their level, not their grade, and many courses come in standard and honors versions, with honors moving faster and asking harder questions. One honors course compresses Algebra 2/Trigonometry and Precalculus into a single year, and KAT Calculus AB adds an extra weekly class. Incoming students take placement tests in May. A tutor helps a student settle into the right level and get ready for the placement test before starting. Learn more about our math tutoring.

Chemistry, physics and KAT science

Biology comes first at Kehillah, in ninth grade, followed by Chemistry or a math-heavy Chemistry Honors. KAT Chemistry asks for a lot of independent work outside class, and the two KAT physics courses use calculus. A Stanford tutor helps a student make that independent work productive and shows how the calculus does the work in each physics problem. Learn more about our science tutoring.

What parents say

“My daughter went from a C in Algebra II to an A- in one semester. The tutor was great, she really related to my daughter and made learning fun for her. Not only did her grade in math improve, her study habits improved and she’s doing better in all of her classes.”

Eduardo S., San Francisco

“The tutors themselves have been great: well-prepared, thoughtful and on-time. At each level of math needed, we found these Stanford students to be not just helpful tutors but great mentors as well. … This is a first class operation.”

Christy S., Portola Valley

“My son was a senior this year and I reached out to Cardinal Tutors and was lucky enough to find the most amazing tutor. I wish I had found him earlier.”

Sharon C., Los Altos

Writing and the Capstone

Kehillah ninth graders write formal analytical papers, eleventh graders in KAT English write argument essays and a creative project, and students in the Capstone Pathway spend two or three years on an original project with a faculty mentor. A tutor helps a student shape a question worth pursuing, organize research over a long stretch, and write about it with care. Learn more about our English and writing tutoring.
