Los Altos Tutoring

Los Altos students often take on a full load of honors and AP classes alongside sports and activities. Our tutors are current and former Stanford students who have balanced the same things themselves, and who can help your student stay on top of it.

Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with a Stanford tutor who fits.

We tutor Los Altos students in math, science and English and writing, from elementary school through junior high and high school, and help juniors and seniors with SAT and ACT prep and college essays. For students balancing a heavy schedule, we also coach study skills and planning.

Our tutors come to your home in Los Altos, or meet your student online, always one-on-one. With honors and AP classes, sports and activities filling the week, a session at home saves a trip and builds study habits right where the homework gets done.

What parents say

“My son was a senior this year and I reached out to Cardinal Tutors and was lucky enough to find the most amazing tutor. I wish I had found him earlier.”

Sharon C., Los Altos

“CT did a great job of matching my daughter’s needs with a physics tutor and she really liked her tutor … We used Cardinal Tutoring again for precalculus. Once again, she had a great tutor she really liked and who really helped her.”

Gail F., Palo Alto

“My son had a wonderful experience with Cardinal Tutors when he needed help with his High School math and science classes. It turns out my son also needed help staying organized with all his assignments, something that the tutor helped with as well.”

Amy C., Palo Alto

Math pathways in the Los Altos School District

Los Altos School District offers several math pathways beginning in 6th grade, including options that cover material at a faster pace. Placement uses multiple measures to match students with an appropriate course. In tutoring, we work on both solving problems and explaining the reasoning behind each step. A session might revisit a topic from class, work through a multi-step problem or build the foundations needed for an accelerated course. The district’s math page links to its current placement guidance.

From Egan or Blach to high school

For students moving from Egan or Blach to Los Altos High or Mountain View High, math placement considers middle school coursework and performance alongside other measures. MVLA also reviews placements in the first month using prior coursework, final grades and assessment results. We can help your student review the skills their next course builds on and, once school starts, work through assignments and establish a manageable study routine.
