Lydian Academy teaches its core classes one-to-one, so its students already know what a teacher’s undivided attention feels like. Our tutoring works the same way. Our tutors are current and former Stanford students, and each of them sits down with one Lydian student at a time.

Mastery pacing needs steady practice
Lydian serves grades 6 through 12 and teaches by mastery: a student finishes one concept before the next begins, on a timeline set by the student’s needs instead of a fixed calendar. That freedom suits a lot of learners, and it also means no class is pulling anyone along. A tutor adds regular practice between Lydian classes, so a unit of math or chemistry gets closed out and the following one opens on schedule.
Mid-semester starts and courses on demand
Lydian enrolls on a rolling basis and takes mid-semester transfers. We help a newly arrived student rebuild whatever went missing before the switch. The school also offers single courses on demand, honors and AP included, that usually meet early in the morning or after school for students whose school of record is elsewhere. When one Lydian course sits on top of a full day at another campus, our tutor keeps both workloads from colliding.
AP sciences, calculus and early college
The Lydian catalog climbs from middle school math to Multivariable Calculus and lists AP courses across the sciences, English, history and languages. Students 14 and older who make Lydian their high school of record can blend in community college classes through its Early College High School program. Stanford tutors took these same subjects recently, so they can back up an AP Physics unit or a first college course. Lydian also describes serving gifted and twice-exceptional students, and families sometimes ask us for academic coaching on planning; we’re tutors, not clinicians, and we follow the plan you and the school have made.
Algebra, precalculus and calculus
“We have used Cardinal Tutors for over 4 years for two of my sons in different courses: Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.”

Study habits and motivation
“The tutor (who was a Stanford junior) really connected with my son and inspired him to learn. He had some great study tips and was able to help my son raise his grades by quite a bit.”
Pamela T., Palo Alto · Yelp review
Lydian’s campus is in Palo Alto now, after years in Menlo Park. We meet one-on-one at your home in Palo Alto or a neighboring town, or online, and we also tutor students from Mid-Peninsula High School. Tell us which Lydian courses are in progress and how far along they are, and we’ll suggest a tutor.
