Beechwood School keeps one class per grade from Kinder Prep through 8th, so a Beechwood student can grow up alongside the same classmates. Our tutors are current and former Stanford students, and tutoring for Beechwood students is just as personal: one student and one tutor, at your home in Menlo Park or nearby, or online.
Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with a Stanford tutor who fits.
Singapore Math, from Primary Mathematics to Dimensions
Beechwood teaches math with Singapore Math, using Primary Mathematics in the lower school and Dimensions Math in grades 6 through 8, a program the school says emphasizes problem solving. Our math tutors can work from your student’s own Singapore Math books so that practice at home matches class. When a multi-step Dimensions problem stalls, we go back to find the step that’s missing.
Learning to read, then writing in two languages
Beechwood’s younger students learn to read with Fundations, a structured literacy approach, and a tutor can give a new reader patient practice with those same sounds and patterns. From 5th grade on, every Beechwood student takes Spanish, placed either with heritage speakers or with new learners, and essays are part of the class. As the writing grows, our English and writing tutors help Beechwood students plan a paragraph, find the right words and revise.
Middle school at Beechwood and the choice after 8th grade
Beechwood’s 6th, 7th and 8th graders have a longer school day than the lower grades, their own school device, and an advisory alongside homeroom. Beechwood ends at 8th grade, so every family there chooses a high school. For Beechwood 8th graders applying to independent schools we offer ISEE and SSAT prep, and we keep working with students once they’re at Menlo-Atherton or another high school nearby. Many Beechwood students also like hearing from a Stanford student what school looks like a few years on.
Women tutors as role models
“It was great to find a couple of really smart young women who helped not only with the subject matter, but became great role models.”

Beechwood asks its parents to take part, with parent education and volunteer hours each year, and we like to work the same way. Write to us about what you’re seeing at home, and we’ll match your Beechwood student with a tutor.
