El Camino’s accelerated math path fits Geometry, Algebra 2 and precalculus into two years, and Accelerated Algebra 2 already introduces limits and derivatives. Our tutors are UC San Diego students who took many of the same courses not long ago, from AP Biology to AP Calculus BC.

We help El Camino students keep up in their classes, prepare for the SAT and ACT and work on their college essays. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home in Oceanside, Carlsbad or Vista, or online.
Meet our tutors.
Three years of math in two
On the accelerated path, students meet polar coordinates, parametric curves and the first ideas of calculus while classmates are still in regular Algebra 2. The new topics usually go fine. What slips is the algebra underneath, learned faster than usual and now carrying more weight. Each session, your student and a tutor go back through the week’s problems to find the algebra slips hiding inside them, so calculus doesn’t start on a shaky base. Learn more about our math tutoring.
Particles and numbers in AP Chemistry
El Camino’s AP Chemistry asks for two things at once: mathematical problem solving and an understanding of what the particles are doing. Students who are quick with the calculations can still struggle to say why a reaction happens, and the free-response questions ask exactly that. A tutor asks your student to sketch what the particles are doing before writing the equation. Learn more about our science tutoring.

American literature, period by period
English 11 reads American literature in order, connecting each period to the social and political issues of its time. A good essay needs both a close reading and a sense of the moment the work came from, and students tend to lean on one or the other. A tutor helps your student find the passage where the history shows up in the writing itself, so the context supports the argument instead of replacing it.
