El Capitan High School Tutoring

At El Capitan, AP Literature comes in junior year and AP Language in senior year. Our tutors are UC San Diego students who took many of the same courses not long ago, from biology to AP Calculus.

Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with a UC San Diego tutor who fits.

Honors Precalculus

El Capitan’s Honors Precalculus covers the material much more extensively than the regular course, across two semesters, and it’s the main road to AP Calculus. Logarithms are where strong students slow down, because they look like a new operation instead of the inverse of the exponents they already know. A tutor rewrites each log problem as an exponent question with your student until the connection is automatic. Learn more about our math tutoring.

Lab reports in Agricultural Biology

Honors Agricultural Biology asks for technical reading and writing, regular lab reports and daily study, with extensive lab work. Writing up a growing experiment means explaining variation: why two plants under the same conditions came out differently. A tutor asks your student to separate what they controlled from what they couldn’t before writing the discussion. Learn more about our science tutoring.

“My son had a wonderful experience with Cardinal Tutors when he needed help with his High School math and science classes. It turns out my son also needed help staying organized with all his assignments, something that the tutor helped with as well.”

“Their response time is outstanding. Neil responded quickly to my tutoring request for my 15-year-old. Love knowing that I have access to these high-quality services for my children. And, we use them via Zoom since we live in Tennessee. I cannot say enough great things about this business:)”

AP Literature as a junior

Juniors in AP Literature write argumentative essays about poems and novels. The jump is from saying what a text means to arguing how it makes that meaning. A tutor asks your student to argue against their own first reading for a few minutes, then decide which reading the evidence supports. Learn more about our English and writing tutoring.
