Escondido High School Tutoring

Escondido High’s Biology class studies real ecosystem problems, like algal blooms and invasive species, through labs, simulations and performance tasks. Our tutors are UC San Diego students who took many of the same courses not long ago, from biology to AP Calculus BC.

Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with a UC San Diego tutor who fits.

Explaining what happened in an ecosystem

An investigation into an algal bloom asks a student to explain a chain of events: what changed in the water, what that did to the algae, and what happened to everything else. Memorized vocabulary doesn’t get them there. A tutor has your student explain the class investigation back, one link at a time, and where the explanation breaks is what they study next. The road to AP Calculus

At Escondido, AP Calculus comes after Math 3 with Precalculus, the third-year course that adds functions and trigonometry to integrated math. A student who finishes that year with shaky trigonometry spends AP Calculus fighting it. A tutor finds the trig your student hasn’t mastered, the unit circle or the identities, and works on it until it’s automatic, while there’s still time before calculus starts. “My son had a wonderful experience with Cardinal Tutors when he needed help with his High School math and science classes. It turns out my son also needed help staying organized with all his assignments, something that the tutor helped with as well.”

“Their response time is outstanding. Neil responded quickly to my tutoring request for my 15-year-old. Love knowing that I have access to these high-quality services for my children. And, we use them via Zoom since we live in Tennessee. I cannot say enough great things about this business:)”

Argument writing senior year

Escondido seniors can take Expository Reading and Writing, a yearlong course built on argument: reading articles about real issues and writing arguments of their own. It’s the closest thing in high school to college writing. A tutor reads the week’s article with your student, asks what the author claims and how they support it, and helps plan a response before the drafting starts. AP Literature students get the same kind of help with novels and poems. Learn more about our English and writing tutoring.
