Every tutor in our San Diego program is a UC San Diego student. We choose them for how well they know their subjects and for how clearly and patiently they teach.

What we look for
We talk with every tutor ourselves before they work with a family. We want people who can find the real source of a mistake, explain an idea more than one way and keep a discouraged student going. We look for UC San Diego students who have already helped classmates, younger siblings or local kids. All of our San Diego tutors finished middle and high school recently enough to remember how it felt.
Why college students work so well
A middle schooler at Earl Warren or Muirlands often finds it easier to ask questions in a relaxed, one-on-one session with a college student. Our tutors know what AP Physics is like from the inside. They remember a packed junior year, and they talk honestly about college. Your student gets help with this week’s work and a mentor to look up to.
A tutor who fits your student
Tell us about your student’s classes, goals and schedule, and the kind of person they would enjoy learning from. Someone on our team reads what you send, talks with you and chooses the tutor. If your daughter would like to work with a woman studying science or engineering, let us know, and we’ll arrange it. We check in after the first few sessions to make sure the match is working.
Founded at Stanford, staffed from UC San Diego
Cardinal Tutors was founded by Stanford students in 2010, and Stanford students still tutor our Peninsula families. In San Diego our tutors come from UC San Diego, and we choose them the same way. Read what parents say about our tutors.
Sessions are one-on-one, at your home or online, in the San Diego towns we serve and for students at public and private schools across San Diego.
What Cardinal Tutors families say
“It was great to find a couple of really smart young women who helped not only with the subject matter, but became great role models.”
