We tutor Maybeck students in everything from Geometry and Conceptual Physics to Calculus, and help with essays for English and social studies.
Geometry in 9th grade
Maybeck’s standard math track starts with Geometry in 9th grade, and many students reach Calculus and beyond before they graduate. In Geometry, students design their own maps and use overlapping circles to find missing GPS coordinates. A tutor works problems like that with your student, and asks for a second way to the answer once they’ve found the first. Learn more about our math tutoring.
Physics first
Maybeck teaches science in an unusual order: Conceptual Physics for freshmen, Chemistry for sophomores and Biology for juniors, with labs and lab reports from the start of freshman year. A UC Berkeley tutor works the physics and chemistry with your student, from a projectile’s path to a balanced equation, so the lab report starts from ideas they already understand. Writing in seminar classes
English at Maybeck runs from Composition in 9th grade to Literature in 11th, in small seminar-style classes built around writing, and social studies has students analyze primary and secondary sources.
