Every tutor in our East Bay program is a UC Berkeley student. Berkeley draws some of the strongest students in the country, but that isn’t the main thing we look for. We look for people who can explain an idea three different ways, stay patient when a student is frustrated and notice what’s really causing the trouble.

How we choose them

We interview each tutor ourselves and hand-pick them for their command of their subjects and their ability to teach. Many have tutored before, through Berkeley’s peer tutoring programs, in classrooms or with younger students in their own families. All of them remember clearly what middle and high school asked of them, because it wasn’t long ago.

Why a college student

Students often open up to a tutor who’s only a few years older in a way they don’t with a parent or a teacher. A Berkeley tutor can talk about what AP Calculus is really like, how they handled a heavy junior year and what college is like on the other side. That kind of mentoring is a big part of why families stay with us.

A Stanford start, a Berkeley team

Cardinal Tutors was founded by Stanford students in 2010, and our Peninsula tutors are still Stanford students. In the East Bay, we’ve built our team at Berkeley, so your tutor is close by and knows the area.

Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with the right tutor.
