For Berkeley families, a UC Berkeley tutor can be both a patient teacher and someone your student looks up to. We offer one-on-one help with middle school coursework, Berkeley High’s advanced and IB classes, test preparation and college essays.

From middle school to Berkeley High
Berkeley’s middle schools teach one math course for everyone, and the first big fork comes in spring of 8th grade, when students can take the placement test for Berkeley High’s Advanced Math sequence, which leads to AP Calculus BC or IB Higher Level math. At Berkeley High, freshmen share a common 9th grade before moving into one of five learning communities, including the IB program at Berkeley International High School. We help students build a strong foundation before that test, keep up once they’re in advanced or IB courses, and stay organized in a school of more than three thousand.
Berkeley schools
We tutor students from Berkeley High School and King, Willard and Longfellow middle schools, Maybeck High School and Black Pine Circle, and Berkeley families at Saint Mary’s College High School, College Prep and Head-Royce. Saint Mary’s applicants take the HSPT on Saturday, January 9, 2027, and College Prep asks for the ISEE or SSAT. Our tutors prepare 8th graders for both.
A tutor who fits your student
We talk with you before we choose a tutor, so the match fits your student’s subject and personality, and we check in with you after the first few sessions. For a senior, the same tutor can read essay drafts and ask the questions that make them better. The writing stays the student’s own.
What Cardinal Tutors families say
“My son was a senior this year and I reached out to Cardinal Tutors and was lucky enough to find the most amazing tutor. I wish I had found him earlier.”
