We tutor Prospect Sierra middle schoolers in math, science and humanities writing, and help 8th graders get ready for high school entrance tests.

Algebra in 8th grade

Eighth-grade math at Prospect Sierra covers linear systems, polynomials and quadratic functions, in a problem-based class where students talk through their reasoning together. A tutor makes sure your student can solve each kind of problem and explain why the method works. Learn more about our middle school tutoring.

Mousetrap cars to genetics

Science projects run from edible batteries in 5th grade to mousetrap cars and pinball machines in 7th, the year of Newton’s laws and energy. In 8th grade, the class turns to cells, genetics and evolution. With a UC Berkeley tutor, your student gets the formulas of 7th-grade physics straight and learns to reason through 8th-grade biology. What parents say

“My son had a wonderful experience with Cardinal Tutors when he needed help with his High School math and science classes. It turns out my son also needed help staying organized with all his assignments, something that the tutor helped with as well.”

Amy C.

“It was great to find a couple of really smart young women who helped not only with the subject matter, but became great role models.”

Joel S.

“My daughter went from a C in Algebra II to an A- in one semester. The tutor was great, she really related to my daughter and made learning fun for her. Not only did her grade in math improve, her study habits improved and she’s doing better in all of her classes.”

The thesis in humanities

Humanities writing builds year by year: thesis-driven paragraphs in 6th grade, thesis essays in 7th, then a research paper and a persuasive essay in 8th. A tutor helps your student write a thesis that takes a real position, then find the evidence for it in what they’ve read. Learn more about our English and writing tutoring.
