Bishop’s asks a lot of its students, in every grade from 6th to 12th. Our tutors are UC San Diego students with strong backgrounds in their subjects, and they help Bishop’s students with demanding coursework and Bishop’s applicants with the admissions test.
Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with a UC San Diego tutor who fits.
We tutor math, science, English, history and languages, and help with SAT and ACT prep and college essays. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home in La Jolla or online.
Help with Bishop’s coursework
Our tutors help Bishop’s students work through hard problem sets, write and revise analytical essays and prepare for tests and finals. Bishop’s takes new students in every grade, and the first year can be a big step up from a student’s previous school. A tutor can make that year feel manageable, and help a student who has been at Bishop’s for years go further in the subjects they care about.
Applying to Bishop’s: the ISEE or SSAT
Bishop’s asks applicants for the ISEE or the SSAT, the two admissions tests used by independent schools. Students take the version for their grade: the Lower Level ISEE for 6th grade, the Middle Level for 7th and 8th and the Upper Level for high school. Applicants for 10th grade and up can send PSAT, SAT or ACT scores instead. Bishop’s holds its own ISEE test dates in the fall and winter, and applications are due February 1.
How we prepare Bishop’s applicants
Our ISEE and SSAT prep starts with a full practice test. The tutor then spends the sessions on the kinds of questions where your student has the most to gain, and younger applicants get extra practice with timing. These tests include questions students rarely see in class, so starting in the fall gives them time to get comfortable.
What Cardinal Tutors families say
“My daughter went from a C in Algebra II to an A- in one semester. The tutor was great, she really related to my daughter and made learning fun for her. Not only did her grade in math improve, her study habits improved and she’s doing better in all of her classes.”
