Pacific Ridge teaches around a Harkness table: a small class sits together and works through the material in discussion. Our tutors are UC San Diego students who help Pacific Ridge students prepare for those discussions and keep up in math, science and writing.

We tutor students in grades 6 through 12 in math, science, English, history and languages. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home in Carlsbad, Encinitas or the towns nearby, or online.
Learning around the Harkness table
In a Harkness class, a student does well by arriving prepared, having read closely and being able to explain their thinking out loud. Our tutors help students get ready for a discussion: going through the reading, organizing their ideas and practicing how to say them. They also help turn those ideas into strong written work. Math and science alongside everything else
Pacific Ridge emphasizes global education and offers NExT, its internship program. When projects, programs and athletics fill a student’s calendar, math and science are often the first classes to slip, because each week builds on the last. A tutor helps keep those courses on track.
Applying to Pacific Ridge
Application materials are due February 1. Applicants can send ISEE or SSAT scores from the current school year, or results from tests their school already gives, such as MAP, STAR or CAASPP. For families who choose the ISEE or SSAT, we offer one-on-one ISEE and SSAT prep.
