Torrey Pines students carry full schedules, and most of their classes meet only every other day. Our tutors are UC San Diego students who took many of the same courses not long ago, from chemistry and physics to AP Calculus.
Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with a UC San Diego tutor who fits.
We help Torrey Pines students keep up in their classes, prepare for the SAT and ACT and work on college essays. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home in Carmel Valley, Del Mar, Solana Beach or Rancho Santa Fe, or online.
Meet our tutors.
Classes that meet every other day
Torrey Pines runs year-long classes on a rotating block. First period meets every day. The other periods take turns in long blocks, so each of those classes meets every other day. That gives students more time between classes, and it also makes it easy to fall behind without noticing. A weekly session with a tutor keeps each class on track: going back over what the last class covered, working through what didn’t make sense and getting ready for the next test.
Math at Torrey Pines: regular and honors
Like the other San Dieguito high schools, Torrey Pines teaches Integrated Math 1, 2 and 3 in place of Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2. Each course comes in a regular version, which the district calls college prep, and an honors version. An honors student who earns an A or B stays in honors and continues toward AP Calculus or AP Statistics. A C usually means moving to the regular course the next year. A student who wants to move the other way, from regular into honors, has to work through the district’s summer coursework on their own and then pass a test on it. Our tutors help honors students keep their grades up during the year, and they do the summer work with students who are moving up. Learn more about our San Diego math tutoring.

Love knowing that I have access to these high-quality services for my children. And, we use them via Zoom since we live in Tennessee. I cannot say enough great things about this business:)”
Starting 9th grade
Freshmen come to Torrey Pines from Carmel Valley Middle, Earl Warren and Pacific Trails, and from R. Roger Rowe in Rancho Santa Fe. They arrive in different math courses, and all of them are getting used to classes that meet every other day. A tutor can help a new 9th grader settle in during the first semester, before small gaps turn into low grades.
Junior and senior year
Juniors work with our tutors on SAT and ACT prep. Seniors get help with the UC Personal Insight Questions and Common App essays: choosing what to write about, organizing a draft and revising it in their own voice.
