Athenian sits at the foot of Mt. Diablo, and its students spend a lot of time learning outside the classroom: Focus Days in middle school, March Term in the upper school and, in junior year, the 26-day Athenian Wilderness Experience in the High Sierra or Death Valley. Our UC Berkeley tutors help students plan assignments before trips and settle back into their classes when they return.

Sessions are one-on-one, at your home in Danville or online.
Time away from the classroom
Before a junior leaves for the wilderness trip, a tutor can help them work out what to finish early. In the weeks after, sessions go one subject at a time until math, science and languages are all back on track. During March Term, upper school students spend two weeks on a single course, and we use the sessions on either side to catch up and get ahead.
Discussion, seminars and writing
Athenian’s classes are discussion-based, with literature and history seminars in the upper school and plenty of writing. Our tutors help students read closely, contribute with confidence and write strong analytical essays. We also tutor math, from middle school placement through calculus, the sciences and languages. New 6th graders take a math placement test, and we help them prepare for it.
Applying to Athenian
For families applying for 6th or 9th grade, we help students prepare for any admissions testing and for math placement. Learn more about our admissions test prep.
What Cardinal Tutors families say
“It was great to find a couple of really smart young women who helped not only with the subject matter, but became great role models.”
