Block days
Monte Vista has block days, with odd periods on Tuesday and Thursday and even periods on Wednesday and Friday. That means longer classes and two days between them, which rewards students who plan ahead. A weekly session helps: going over what the last block covered and planning the days before the class meets again.
Math and science
Monte Vista follows the district’s traditional sequence, from Algebra 1 and Geometry through Accelerated Algebra 2, Honors Precalculus and AP Calculus AB and BC. Our tutors help students earn the grades that keep them on the accelerated path, and help in AP Biology, AP Chemistry and AP Physics. During finals week a student can have two finals in one day, so we help set a review schedule well ahead.
Writing, argument and college
Monte Vista’s speech and debate program is one of the best in the country, and the same skills, building an argument and backing it up, run through AP English, AP Seminar and history. We help students write clearly and persuasively, and help juniors and seniors with SAT and ACT prep and college essays.
