Del Norte divides its year into three trimesters, so courses move in short stretches and grades close three times a year. Our tutors are UC San Diego students who help Del Norte students keep up with that pace.

Trimesters at Del Norte
Each trimester is 60 school days. A slow first month is a third of the term, and there is less time to recover than on a semester calendar. Most days have five class periods and an Office Hours block, a set time when students can go to a teacher for help. Office Hours works best for a student who arrives with a specific question. Our tutors work through the week’s material with your student and help them decide which questions to take to the teacher.
AP classes
Del Norte offers about twenty AP courses. We match each AP student with a UC San Diego student who studies that subject or one close to it. Our tutors help students keep up during the year in AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Physics and the AP history and English courses, and plan their review for the May exams.

Math after Oak Valley and Design 39
Oak Valley Middle School in 4S Ranch and Design 39 Campus in Del Sur teach the neighborhood’s middle grades. Some of their students take Poway Unified’s faster math courses, which cover three years of math in two. A freshman who moved ahead early sometimes finds, a course or two later, that a topic went by too quickly. Our tutors go back and reteach it.
