Honors math at Earl Warren
San Dieguito lets strong math students skip ahead. A 6th grader can take an optional test in the spring to start 7th grade in the honors version of the 8th grade course, and Earl Warren has been one of the two sites where the test is given. Every 6th grader in the elementary districts that feed San Dieguito also takes a separate math test that helps decide their 7th grade course. Our tutors help future Earl Warren students prepare for both tests, and help them keep up once they’re placed.
Moving up a level
A student in the regular math course who earns an A is encouraged to work through the district’s summer coursework on their own and move into honors the next year. That summer is a good time for a few sessions with a tutor, to go over the topics that are new. Learn more about our San Diego math tutoring.
Electives and a busy week
Earl Warren’s electives include band, guitar, drama, art, STEAM and world languages. A student taking those along with honors classes often needs help planning the week, and our tutors help with that too. For Spanish, see our language tutoring.
After Earl Warren
Eighth graders go on to Torrey Pines High School unless they request a place at San Dieguito Academy or Canyon Crest Academy, which hold a lottery when more students apply than there are seats.
What Cardinal Tutors families say
“It was great to find a couple of really smart young women who helped not only with the subject matter, but became great role models.”
