Pacific Trails Middle School Tutoring

Pacific Trails teaches 7th and 8th grade next door to Canyon Crest Academy, and 7th grade asks more of students than elementary school did. Our tutors are UC San Diego students who help Pacific Trails students with their classes and with staying organized.

We tutor math, English, science and history. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home in Pacific Highlands Ranch or Carmel Valley, or online.

The honors math test

San Dieguito lets strong math students skip ahead: a 6th grader can take an optional test in the spring to start 7th grade in the honors version of the 8th grade course. Pacific Trails has been one of the sites where the test is given. The passing score has been 70 percent in recent years, and there are no retakes. A few months of tutoring in 6th grade helps a student decide whether to try, and prepares them if they do.

Staying in honors

For students already in an honors math course, the district’s rule is simple. An A or B keeps a student in honors the next year, and a C means moving to the regular course. Weekly sessions give students time to go over mistakes, practice new material and prepare for tests. Learn more about our San Diego math tutoring.

Choosing a high school

Torrey Pines High School is the neighborhood high school for Pacific Trails. In 8th grade, families decide whether to stay with it or request a place at Canyon Crest Academy next door or at San Dieguito Academy. Both hold a lottery when more students apply than there are seats. Whichever school your student attends, our tutors help them arrive ready.
