Aragon High School Tutoring

Aragon’s math runs past the usual end of high school calculus to a multivariable course that matches the third semester of calculus at most universities. Our tutors are current and former Stanford students who have taken university math themselves and explain it in plain language.

We tutor Aragon students from Algebra 1 through multivariable calculus, in biology, chemistry and physics, and in English and history writing. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home or online.

Compressed Math and the road to calculus

Aragon’s Compressed Math courses fit three years of math into two, from Geometry through Pre-Calculus, to prepare students for AP Calculus AB and BC, and Calculus Multivariable Honors comes after that. The pace is fast. For a student in Compressed Math or AP Calculus, a tutor keeps up with the class week by week, so a confusing unit gets cleared up right away. Learn more about our math tutoring.

Advanced Standing English and research writing

Aragon calls its honors English and world history classes Advanced Standing. Ninth graders in Advanced Standing English read Frankenstein and Born a Crime, and all ninth-grade English classes write literary analysis and argument essays and complete research projects. Juniors write synthesis essays and research a formal debate, and seniors in English 4 write a research paper on a real-world problem. A tutor helps a student find an arguable thesis, use sources well, and write strongly under time pressure. Learn more about our English and writing tutoring.

What parents say

“My daughter went from a C in Algebra II to an A- in one semester. The tutor was great, she really related to my daughter and made learning fun for her. Not only did her grade in math improve, her study habits improved and she’s doing better in all of her classes.”

Eduardo S., San Francisco

“The tutors themselves have been great: well-prepared, thoughtful and on-time. At each level of math needed, we found these Stanford students to be not just helpful tutors but great mentors as well. … This is a first class operation.”

Christy S., Portola Valley

“My son was a senior this year and I reached out to Cardinal Tutors and was lucky enough to find the most amazing tutor. I wish I had found him earlier.”

Sharon C., Los Altos

Science at Aragon

Most Aragon students start science with Biology, and Chemistry usually comes next. The AP sciences include AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics 1 and AP Physics C, which expects five to seven hours of homework a week. A Stanford tutor works through those problem sets with a student and makes the calculus in AP Physics C feel natural. Learn more about our science tutoring.
