Notre Dame Elementary’s middle schoolers write every day, from journal entries and short answers to essays and research papers. Our tutors are Stanford students who took many of the same courses not long ago, from pre-algebra to geometry.
Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with a Stanford tutor who fits.
We help Notre Dame Elementary students with math, science, reading and writing, and eighth graders preparing for high school entrance tests. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home in Belmont, San Carlos or San Mateo, or online.

High-school Geometry in eighth grade
Accelerated eighth graders take high-school Geometry through Notre Dame Elementary’s partnership with Notre Dame High School in Belmont. Geometry asks for logic that’s new to most students, starting with the idea that a statement and its reverse aren’t the same: every square is a rectangle, but not every rectangle is a square. A tutor tests each claim in your student’s homework with them, forward and backward. Learn more about our math tutoring.
Lab reports in middle-school science
Middle-school science at Notre Dame Elementary includes hands-on labs with written reports. Graphing the results is where reports go wrong, often with the two variables on the wrong axes. A tutor lays out the rule with your student, the thing you change across the bottom and the thing you measure up the side, and they redraw one old graph to practice it. Research with real sources
Middle-school research at Notre Dame Elementary uses high-school-level databases and MLA citations. Using a source well means putting its idea in your own words, not stitching quotations together. A tutor asks your student to read a sentence, look away and say it in their own words, then cite it properly. Learn more about our English and writing tutoring.
