In Egan’s eighth-grade English, students draft and revise several pieces in each writing unit and then choose their best to publish. Our tutors are Stanford students who took many of the same courses not long ago, from algebra to geometry.
Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with a Stanford tutor who fits.
We help Egan students with math, science, reading and writing, and eighth graders preparing for high school entrance tests. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home in Los Altos, Mountain View or Palo Alto, or online.
Meet our tutors
Accelerated algebra
Egan’s accelerated Algebra 8 covers high-school algebra alongside eighth-grade math, with weekly quizzes. Equations with variables on both sides are a common wall: students move terms around without a clear reason. A tutor asks your student what they’re trying to get alone before each step, so the moves stop feeling random. Learn more about our math tutoring.
The Science 7 notebook
Science 7 at Egan includes ecology and a frog dissection, and students keep a science notebook for classwork. The notebook is only useful for studying if the notes say what each observation means. A tutor goes through a week of notebook pages with your student and asks for one sentence under each entry explaining why it matters. Learn more about our science tutoring.

Annotating every book
English 8 asks students to annotate every book and keep a reading notebook. Annotations help only if they record a thought, not just a highlight. A tutor looks through your student’s margins with them and asks what each underline was for, and your student turns three of them into sentences they could use in an essay.
