Carlmont’s AP Physics C: Mechanics uses calculus, and it leans on strong algebra and trigonometry too. Our tutors are Stanford students and alumni who took many of the same courses not long ago, from physics to chemistry.
Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with a Stanford tutor who fits.
We tutor San Carlos students from elementary school through high school, including students at Central, Tierra Linda and nearby Carlmont and Sequoia. We help with math, science, reading and writing. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home in San Carlos, or online.
Following a lab result back at Carlmont
Carlmont’s AP Chemistry includes frequent guided investigations with write-ups in lab notebooks. A result that differs from the expected value leaves your student unsure whether to question the calculation or the experiment. A tutor traces the result back through the student’s notebook to find where the calculation or measurement first needs checking. Learn more about our science tutoring.

Using sources in Sequoia’s English
Sequoia’s IB English students submit their written work under MLA guidelines. Paraphrasing a source can leave your student unsure which words and ideas still need attribution. A tutor compares the student’s paraphrase with the original, checking that it uses their own wording and still credits the idea. Learn more about our English and writing tutoring.
How math works in San Carlos
For San Carlos eighth graders going to Carlmont or Sequoia, high-school course selection begins in the spring when district counselors visit their middle schools. Their eighth-grade math course sets the starting point: a completed year of Algebra 1 normally leads to Geometry in ninth grade. State test scores help the district decide whether a student needs additional support in math. For the move into Geometry, a tutor helps your student turn observations from a class diagram into reasons they can use in a proof.
SAT, ACT and college essays
For the SAT and ACT, a tutor starts from a practice test and spends sessions on the question types your student misses most. For college essays, a tutor helps your student find a story only they could tell and shape it through drafts; the writing stays the student’s own. Learn more about our test preparation.
