At JM, students qualify for accelerated math through a combination of performance-task assessments, a district test and their own test scores, and accelerated students take Algebra 1 in 8th grade before starting Campo in Geometry Advanced. Performance tasks ask students to explain their thinking and work through multi-step problems, which is a skill that can be practiced.

Our UC Berkeley tutors help Jaguars prepare for those assessments, stay strong once they’re accelerated and build a solid foundation on the standard path. JM also runs a block schedule with an Academy period, much like the high school, so we help students learn to plan their week around long classes early on. We tutor English, science and history too.
