La Entrada takes students from 4th grade through 8th, so a math pathway, a first language and a set of study habits all take shape on one campus. Our tutors are current and former Stanford students, and La Entrada tutoring with us is one-on-one, at home in Menlo Park or Atherton, or online.

Three math pathways and the Bridge courses between them
In recent years the Las Lomitas district has been piloting three routes through La Entrada math: Grade-Level, 1-Year Compacted and 2-Year Compacted. The compacted routes reach high school Algebra 1 or Geometry in 8th grade, and Bridge courses, some taken over the summer, cover the standards in between. Placement draws on earlier math performance, state testing and end-of-course assessments that start in 4th grade, a La Entrada student’s first year. A math tutor can help a 4th or 5th grader show what they know on those assessments, work alongside a Bridge course, or steady the first months of a compacted class. From 6th grade, La Entrada parents may ask for a different placement than the one recommended, and the district says any extra support then falls to the family.
A language picked in 6th grade
La Entrada 6th graders who want a language rotate through French, Spanish, Latin and Mandarin, one each quarter, then choose one for 7th and 8th grade. Those two La Entrada years stand in for a full year of high school language, so we help students keep vocabulary and grammar solid throughout.
Wednesday Flex, and on to Menlo-Atherton
La Entrada’s 6th through 8th graders can sign up for Student Flex after Wednesday dismissal, for teacher office hours, the Homework Center or a retake. Our academic coaching helps a student look at the week before Flex sign-ups, choose which teacher to see and arrive with questions ready. La Entrada has described its graduates as heading to Menlo-Atherton, Woodside or private high schools on the Peninsula, and we help 8th graders finish Algebra 1 or Geometry on firm ground.

Study habits and motivation
“The tutor (who was a Stanford junior) really connected with my son and inspired him to learn. He had some great study tips and was able to help my son raise his grades by quite a bit.”
