Diegueño and Oak Crest are Encinitas’s two public middle schools. Both teach 7th and 8th grade, and both lead to La Costa Canyon High. Our tutors are UC San Diego students who help students at both schools.

Math at Diegueño and Oak Crest
Both schools teach a course called Integrated Math A in 7th grade and Integrated Math B in 8th, each at three levels: a foundation level, a regular level and honors. Placement draws on a math test every 6th grader takes in the spring. Students who want to skip ahead and take the 8th grade honors course as 7th graders take a second test, where in recent years the passing score has been 70 percent. Our tutors help 6th graders prepare, and help 7th and 8th graders keep up in the course they’re placed in. Learn more about our San Diego math tutoring.
Dual language at Diegueño
Diegueño lists a dual language immersion program. A student learning in two languages sometimes wants help with vocabulary or writing in one of them, and we can match them with a tutor who speaks both. Learn more about our language tutoring.

All reviewsFind a coding tutor“I have been absolutely impressed by her lessons over the past few months. Lily also loves working with her. She has been making great progress with her programming and writing.”
“I find your tutor quality to be excellent and a perfect fit!”
Find a math tutor“Second, our tutor connected with my 8th grade son immediately. What we needed was a mentor and homework coach, to engage my son and keep him focused to ensure concepts were cemented in cranking out homework.”
Choosing a high school
In 8th grade, Diegueño and Oak Crest families choose between La Costa Canyon High School, the neighborhood high school, and requesting a place at San Dieguito Academy or Canyon Crest Academy, which hold a lottery when more students apply than there are seats. Strong writing and math help at any of the three.
