La Costa Canyon is the only school in the San Dieguito district with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, and it offers a long list of AP courses as well. Our tutors are UC San Diego students who took courses like these not long ago.
Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with a UC San Diego tutor who fits.
We help LCC students with IB and AP coursework, math, science and English, and with SAT and ACT prep. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home in Encinitas, Cardiff, Leucadia or Olivenhain, or online.
Meet our tutors.
The IB Diploma at LCC
IB students write an extended essay, which is a long independent research paper. They also complete graded projects in each subject and take exams that reward organized, well-argued writing. The extended essay is much easier when it is planned months ahead. A tutor can help your student settle on a question early, set dates for the research, the first draft and the revision, and keep to them. Our tutors also help with IB math and science and with practice for timed written answers. They give feedback and ask questions, and the work stays the student’s own. AP courses at LCC
For AP classes we match by subject: a UC San Diego chemistry or biology major for AP Chemistry, a math or engineering major for AP Calculus. Our tutors help LCC students keep up during the year in calculus, chemistry, biology, physics, history and English, and start reviewing for the May exams well ahead of time.

Math at LCC: regular and honors
LCC teaches Integrated Math 1, 2 and 3, each in a regular version, which the district calls college prep, and an honors version, leading to calculus or statistics. Freshmen come from Diegueño and Oak Crest middle schools and don’t all start in the same course. A student who wants to move from regular into honors has to work through the district’s summer coursework on their own and then pass a test on it. Our tutors do that summer work with them. Tell us if your LCC student is in IB, AP or both, and which classes they’re taking, and we’ll find the right tutor.
