Point Loma High School Tutoring

Point Loma describes its AP Chemistry class as swift-paced and expects about 45 minutes of work outside class every day. Our tutors are UC San Diego students who took many of the same courses not long ago, from chemistry to AP Calculus.

Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with a UC San Diego tutor who fits.

Keeping pace in AP Chemistry

Forty-five minutes a night adds up, and chemistry builds on itself: a student who never quite got stoichiometry in the fall finds equilibrium twice as hard in the spring. Each session starts with the week’s hardest problem set. Your student explains each step back to a tutor, and the step they can’t explain is the one they practice. Data Science and Statistics

Point Loma offers Data Science and Statistics, a math course built around fitting models to real data and deciding what they show. It’s math a student can use, and it’s hard in a new way: the question is less “what’s the answer?” than “what does this tell us, and how sure are we?” A tutor looks at your student’s data with them and asks what the model gets right, what it misses and why. “My son had a wonderful experience with Cardinal Tutors when he needed help with his High School math and science classes. It turns out my son also needed help staying organized with all his assignments, something that the tutor helped with as well.”

“Their response time is outstanding. Neil responded quickly to my tutoring request for my 15-year-old. Love knowing that I have access to these high-quality services for my children. And, we use them via Zoom since we live in Tennessee. I cannot say enough great things about this business:)”

Talking about books

Point Loma freshmen read fiction and nonfiction around the theme of identity and relationships, and much of the analysis happens in groups. Speaking up about a text in front of classmates is a skill some strong readers haven’t practiced. Juniors can go on to AP Language, and seniors to AP Literature. Before class, a tutor talks through the reading with your student, so they arrive with a point and the line that backs it up. Learn more about our English and writing tutoring.
