Stratford calls its curriculum accelerated, and its elementary students have math, vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing classes every day. Our tutors are current and former Stanford students who make each idea click before moving on and keep a young student confident as the pace picks up.
Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with a Stanford tutor who fits.
We tutor Stratford students at the Palo Alto and Sunnyvale campuses in everything from early reading and arithmetic to Algebra II and Trigonometry, and help with writing, grammar and vocabulary. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home or online.
The elementary years
Stratford treats study skills and homework as part of success from the early grades, and fourth grade is designed to prepare students for the work of middle school. A tutor makes sure the basics are solid, from math facts to clear sentences, and helps a young student build good homework habits. Learn more about our math tutoring.
Middle school in Palo Alto
Stratford’s Palo Alto middle school gives students two English periods every day, one for literature and vocabulary and one for grammar and composition, with vocabulary built from Latin, Greek and Old English roots. Math pathways run from Pre-Algebra to Algebra II and Trigonometry, depending on each student’s readiness, and science covers physics, chemistry, biology and earth science together in every grade. A tutor helps a student keep up in a faster math pathway, write with correct grammar and a clear structure, and make sense of science that pulls several fields together. What parents say
“The tutor (who was a Stanford junior) really connected with my son and inspired him to learn. He had some great study tips and was able to help my son raise his grades by quite a bit.”
Pamela T., Palo Alto
“At each level of math needed, we found these Stanford students to be not just helpful tutors but great mentors as well.”
Christy S., Portola Valley
“It turns out my son also needed help staying organized with all his assignments, something that the tutor helped with as well.”
Amy C., Palo Alto
After fifth grade in Sunnyvale
Stratford’s Sunnyvale campuses end at fifth grade, so families there choose a middle school. For schools that ask for an entrance exam such as the ISEE, a tutor helps a fifth grader prepare. Learn more about our entrance-exam tutoring.
