Woodside High School has a few courses and programs you won’t find at every school, from Advanced Standing classes to the Green Academy. We tutor Woodside High students one-on-one, and our tutors are Stanford students.

What ‘AS’ means on a Woodside schedule
Woodside uses the label AS, for Advanced Standing, on its accelerated courses below the AP level. The school’s overview lists Algebra II/Trigonometry and AS English II among them, along with AS Chemistry, which it notes is the only Advanced Standing course with a weighted grade. For many students these are the first classes that move faster than they are used to. A math tutor can make the trigonometry in Algebra II/Trig less of a jolt. Woodside’s math department also keeps its own grading scale and lets students retake an exam when they meet set criteria, so we help a student prepare properly for that second attempt.
Science from Biology to AP Physics C
Ninth graders take Biology, and chemistry follows in tenth grade. AP Biology and AP Environmental Science both build on those two courses. AP Physics C: Mechanics is taken alongside Pre-Calculus or higher, and the Electricity and Magnetism course alongside calculus, so the physics leans on math a student is still learning. Our science tutoring covers both sides in one session. Woodside also offers engineering courses starting in ninth grade, and its AP list includes Latin; tell us if your student needs help there.

Inside the Green Academy
The Green Academy is a school within a school. Its students take English, social studies and science together in smaller classes with an environmental focus, plus a three-year sequence that runs from plant and soil science through California water to sustainable design. Juniors are paired with a mentor from the community. The projects cut across subjects, and a tutor can help a student plan a long assignment, write it up clearly and keep the other classes from slipping meanwhile.
Sessions are one-on-one, at your home in Woodside or online. We also work with families at Menlo-Atherton. See our Woodside tutoring page, or drop us a note about what your student is working on and we’ll take it from there.
