Los Cerros, on Danville’s northeast side, is a small middle school with an accelerated math sequence that leads to Accelerated Algebra 1 and then Geometry as a freshman at Monte Vista. Students who drop below a C at the semester move back to the standard class, so steady grades matter.
Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with a UC Berkeley tutor who fits.
Our UC Berkeley tutors help students understand new material in accelerated classes, fill gaps before they become problems and build a strong base on the standard path. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home in Danville or online.
Staying in accelerated math
Accelerated Algebra 1 is the second year of a two-year program, so it depends on everything from the year before. When a grade starts to slide, the cause is often an earlier idea that never settled. A tutor can find that idea, reteach it and then work ahead into the next section. The best time to start is at the first low quiz, well before the semester ends.
Spanish in 7th and 8th grade
Los Cerros students can start Spanish in 7th grade, and the two middle school years together equal a full year of high school Spanish. A B- or better in the 8th grade course moves a student into second-year Spanish as a freshman. We match Spanish students with a tutor who speaks the language well, so they get practice speaking as well as help with vocabulary and grammar. We also tutor science and Core, the combined English and history class.
What Cardinal Tutors families say
“It was great to find a couple of really smart young women who helped not only with the subject matter, but became great role models.”
