Orinda Intermediate School Tutoring

At OIS, accelerated math starts in 6th grade with a course that covers 6th and 7th grade math together, continues with one that covers 7th and 8th, and leads to Algebra 1 in 8th grade. For the most advanced students, taking Geometry before high school opens a path to both AP Calculus AB and BC at Miramonte. With all those decision points, it helps to have someone in your student’s corner.

Our UC Berkeley tutors help OIS students get ready for each step, keep up once they’re accelerated and build confidence on the standard path. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home in Orinda or online.

Accelerated math at OIS

The OIS math department assesses students throughout the year, so steady work counts in every unit. The first semester of an accelerated class is when the pace surprises students, and it is a good time to start with a tutor. Tutoring is a way to make sure students are truly ready, not to rush them.

Beyond math

We also help with English, science, history and the study habits that carry into high school. Sixth grade brings more teachers and more homework than elementary school did, and our tutors help students stay organized. For students who love a challenge, our tutors are happy to work on Mathcounts-style problems too.

What Cardinal Tutors families say

“The tutors themselves have been great: well-prepared, thoughtful and on-time.”
