Serra is a Catholic boys’ school where honors classes are common: many freshmen start in at least one, and most students take honors or AP courses before they graduate. Our tutors are Stanford students, and we match each Serra student with a tutor he connects with and looks up to.
Tell us about your student, and we’ll match them with a Stanford tutor who fits.
We tutor Serra students in math from Algebra 1 to AP Calculus, in biology, chemistry and physics, and in writing, and help eighth graders prepare for the HSPT. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home or online.
Meet our tutors
College prep and honors math
Serra math has a college prep track and an honors track running from Honors Algebra 1 to AP Calculus. Students can move between the tracks from year to year based on their semester grades, so steady work across the year matters more than a strong finish. A tutor works with a student through the whole year, so a hard unit gets sorted out while it’s still fresh. Learn more about our math tutoring.
Honors English and writing
To move up to honors English, a Serra student with straight A’s in college prep English writes a placement essay that the department chair and an honors teacher score. Juniors read Mark Twain and Into the Wild, and students can take AP Seminar and AP Research in classes shared with Notre Dame and Mercy. A tutor helps a student write clearly and confidently, the skill the placement essay, and every English class after it, depends on. Learn more about our English and writing tutoring.

Applying to Serra
The High School Placement Test (HSPT), given in December, is part of every Serra application, and Serra uses the scores along with middle school grades and teacher recommendations to place incoming freshmen. Admitted students can also take a math placement exam in May. A tutor prepares an eighth grader for both. Learn more about our entrance-exam tutoring.
