Notre Dame gives biology and chemistry a full lab block on top of the regular class, and every sophomore studies research and argument in her English class. Our tutors are Stanford students who know these subjects well, and we match each student with a tutor who fits her, including a woman tutor if she prefers.

We tutor Notre Dame students in everything from Algebra I and Introductory Physics to AP Calculus BC and AP Chemistry, and help with research essays and college applications. Sessions are one-on-one, at your home or online.

Moving up in math
Notre Dame’s math has a college prep path, from Algebra I through Precalculus, and an honors path that runs from Geometry Honors to AP Calculus AB or BC. Moving on to the next honors course takes strong grades and test scores through the year, a placement test in the spring and the department’s approval. A tutor works through the year’s material with your student so it’s solid well before spring, and helps her get ready for the spring placement test. Learn more about our math tutoring.
Physics first, then biology and chemistry
Ninth graders take Introductory Physics, which focuses on understanding how the world works more than on heavy calculation. Biology follows in tenth grade, then Chemistry, each with its extra lab block. AP Physics 1, AP Biology and AP Chemistry come later, with a teacher’s recommendation. A Stanford tutor helps her connect the lab work to the ideas behind it, prepare for unit tests, and build toward the AP courses. Learn more about our science tutoring.

AP Seminar and research writing
Every Notre Dame sophomore takes AP Seminar, where she learns to research a question, build an argument from her sources and present it to an audience, and writes an individual research essay for the AP exam. Sophomores in Modern World History also write research papers that pose a hypothesis and defend it. A tutor helps her choose a question she can actually answer, organize her sources, and revise until the argument holds up. Learn more about our English and writing tutoring.
Applying to Notre Dame
Every Notre Dame applicant takes the High School Placement Test (HSPT) on campus in December. A tutor works through its reading, math and verbal sections with an eighth grader, so the test feels familiar. Learn more about our entrance-exam tutoring.
