Often the subject isn’t the problem. A student understands the material but loses track of assignments, starts big projects the night before or studies by rereading notes that don’t stick. These are executive function skills, and they can be taught.

What coaching covers

Coaches help students plan their week, break long assignments into steps, keep track of deadlines across classes and use study methods that work, like practicing recall and spacing review over several days. We set up a system the student will actually use, whether that’s a paper planner, a calendar or the school’s online portal.

Regular check-ins

Coaching works best as a weekly habit: look back at how the last week went, plan the next one and adjust. Students often take this better from a Berkeley student a few years older than from a parent, and many families pair it with tutoring in a specific subject.

Sessions are one-on-one, at home or online. Tell us what’s getting in the way, and we’ll find a coach who fits.
